The community of Pella, Iowa recently became a hub of career exploration as WorkSMART Connector and Central College hosted a dynamic work based learning event. 8th grade students from surrounding communities were brought together to explore the diverse career paths awaiting them once they transition into high school.
VRSim was thrilled to be part of the action showing students that the future of job training is moving beyond the textbook and into the headset.
Hands on Healthcare with VRNA
We teamed up with a group of healthcare employers to give students a literal “feel” for the medical field. Using VRNA, 8th graders stepped out of the real world and into immersive simulated Patient Care and EMS clinical environments.
- Clinical Patient Care Confidence: Students practiced essential patient care skills in a low stakes, high engagement setting.
- EMS Exploration: Aspiring first responders got a taste of the fast paced world of emergency medical services.
- Real World Impact: By trying VRNA, students saw how VR bridges the gap between classroom theory and the hands-on demands of healthcare.

Skilled Trades in High Definition
The healthcare wing was not the only place where the future was taking shape. Thanks to the folks at Weiler (based out of Knoxville, Iowa), students also had the chance to step into the virtual paint booth with SimSpray.
Weiler showcased how virtual reality is revolutionizing the skilled trades. Students interested in manufacturing and the trades got to experience virtual painting and coatings. This offered a clean, safe, and highly effective way to understand the precision and technique required in modern industrial finishing.

Why Early Exposure Matters
Events like these are crucial for workforce development. By reaching students in 8th grade, WorkSMART Connector and Central College are helping the next generation:
- Identify Passions Early: Choosing a high school track becomes much easier when students have already experienced a career simulation.
- Build Local Connections: Students are discovering that world-class companies, such as Wieler, utilize innovative technology like VRSim virtual reality right in their own community.
Thank You!
We want to extend a huge thank you to Central College for hosting, WorkSMART Connector for the incredible organization, and the team at Wieler for being fantastic advocates in promoting the skilled trades. The future of Iowa’s workforce is looking bright and very high tech!
